American Red Cross

The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Along with their donors, volunteers and employees, they share a mission to prevent and relieve suffering here at home and around the world through five key service areas: disaster relief, supporting America’s military families, life saving blood, health and safety services, and international services. The American Red Cross pledges to share the 5 Signs of Suffering with 55,000 people through Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Red Cross military and veteran resiliency programs. The PFA course provides practical suggestions for what a person can say or do when he or she practices psychological first aid, and it helps disaster employees and volunteers provide assistance to those who need it most during disaster response and recovery activities. The Red Cross offers many skill-building opportunities to help service members and veterans – as well as their families and support systems – identify and cope with challenges after deployment. Some of these programs include Coping With Deployments and Reconnection Workshops. The Red Cross continues to help change the story by preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies. Their mission is “to turn compassion into action.”
