Last Friday night (October 12), Los Angeles welcomed back the second annual Charity Bomb-hosted concert, Strange 80s 2. Held at Hollywood’s Fonda Theatre, this benefit featured performances by a rotating cast of rock stars and special guest celebrities. They played 80’s music throughout the night and delighted the concert goers with their versions of many beloved pop and rock hits from that decade.
While getting to see all of the amazing super-group combinations were unbelievable, what was more incredible was the reason everyone was there. Strange 80’s was created in order to raise money for Talinda Bennington’s Change Direction, an organization focused on mental health (her husband, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, committed suicide in July 2017).
The line-up for Strange 80’s 2 was made up of members from No Doubt, Slipknot, Sum41, Limp Bizkit, Weezer, Bowling For Soup, N’SYNC, Anthrax, Bowling For Soup, Velvet Revolver, OK Go, Sugarcult, Filter, Steel Panther, The Regrettes and many others.
The entertaining show ended with a rousing performance by the legendary David Hasselhoff. He sang “True Survivor,” from his 2015 film “Kung Fury” and a cover of David Bowie’s “Hero.”
Throughout the event, members of all kinds of bands joined together to play 80’s jams. At one point, Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley hit the stage and performed Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”and “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” N’SYNC’s Chris Kirkpatrick sang The Outfield’s “Your Love” and Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me”along with special guest, Dennis Haskins better known as Saved By The Bell’s Mr. Belding. More stand-out moments included Jaret Redding ofBowling for Soup’s performance Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” and The Cure’s “I Melt With You.”
In addition to this full concert, Strange 80s 2 also featured a video arcade and live auction offering exclusive, big-ticket items and experiences.
Charity Bomb’s mission is to be a force multiplier for other charities and/or organizations that focus on fundraising for musicians and artists in need. They take action by producing live entertainment events on their behalf, primarily in support of mental health, addiction and others issues that are prevalent in the artist community.
